The morning ceremony circuit
The march leaves Festplassen at approximately 07:50 as the morning procession arrives, accompanied by Lungegaardens Musikkorps. Flag raising at Skipperforeningen’s house on Vågsallmenningen takes place at 08:00, followed by wreath laying at Minebøssen on Bryggen and then at the Seafarers’ Monument at Torgallmenningen.
Skipperforeningen and Maskinistforeningen conduct the wreath laying. Separate times have not been assigned to the two ceremonies.
Remembering seafarers’ service
Sofus Madsen created Minebøssen, unveiled on 6 February 1921. A sea mine was converted into a collection box to support the families of seafarers killed during the First World War.
Wreath laying honours their service and recalls the human cost of seafaring. The ceremony continues from here to the Seafarers’ Monument at Torgallmenningen.
