The whole celebration in your pocket: discover the programme, interactive maps, registration, practical help, photo archives and more than 200 years of Bergen’s 17 May history on the new website.
Bergen knows how to celebrate. Now the city’s Constitution Day has a website that does justice to the festivities, the history and the people who make it all happen. Welcome to a new digital home for 17 May in Bergen!
We have brought together everything you need before the day, the information you want while you are out celebrating, and the memories you will return to afterwards. From the first cannon salute in the morning to the last cheers at night, the new website makes it easier to find your way and even more tempting to join in.
Looking ahead to 17 May 2027: Much of the information about next year’s celebrations is still being prepared. Programme details, times, routes and practical information will be added as plans are confirmed and Constitution Day approaches. Keep coming back: there will be more and more to discover!

The whole celebration, right in your pocket
The new website is designed to work well on your phone. That is where you need it when you are standing at Torget, following the children’s flag parade or finding your family’s next adventure. Clear cards, generous touch targets and quick access to useful information make the website easy to use out in the city.
The programme lists events with dates, times and details as they become available. On 17 May itself, “Happening now” on the homepage helps you find the day’s current events. Throughout the rest of the year, you will find planning updates and information about the next celebration.

Five processions — and a map that really helps
The morning procession, main procession, children’s flag parade, rowing teams’ procession and torchlight procession all have a place on the procession pages, with information about assembly points, departures and routes.
The small rowing teams’ procession leaves Kaigaten after the main procession, at approximately 12:30, and heads to Dreggekaien with the teams taking part in the rowing race. It is led by the 17 May Committee, Det glade Bergen, Alvøens Musikkforening and cadets from the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy.
The interactive map lets you choose procession routes and zoom in on the city. Plan your day at home, then take the map with you into the streets. Provisional routes are marked, and information is updated when this year’s arrangements are confirmed.

Less searching. More celebrating.
Where are the toilets? How do you get to the city centre? Do you need accessibility information, first aid or somewhere to sit? Plan your visit brings the answers together in sections that are easy to find.
Clubs, associations and other participants can use Get involved to find procession registration, vehicle permit applications and information about stalls. Our English-language information helps more visitors understand and enjoy Bergen’s wonderfully distinctive Constitution Day.
More than 200 years of history to explore
The new historical timeline, from 1814 to today, is a little treasure trove. Jump between eras, select archive photographs to enlarge them, or let “Surprise me” take you to a story you may never have heard.
Twenty historical stops take you from the Constitution and the first cannon salutes to the children’s flag parade, Bjørnson, the Viking ship and the liberation celebrations of 1945. Follow the links to historical articles and photographs from the celebrations. New technology meets the city’s long memory in a journey through time we are truly proud of.

Photographs, speeches and memories that live on
People make the day. That is why authentic photographs from Bergen take centre stage. Relive the atmosphere in the photo and video archive, and explore speeches and ceremonies by year in the speech archive.
We also celebrate the businesses and organisations that contribute through Together for Bergen. Behind the festivities is a large community of volunteers, participants and supporters. The new website gives them the recognition they deserve.

A new home for a tradition that keeps growing
This is much more than a fresh coat of paint. We have brought practical help, Bergen’s identity, living history and the joy of celebration into one digital home. Programme details and information for 2027 will be added as they become available, and the website will grow with the celebrations, year after year.
Take a look. Try the map. Travel through history. Find your favourite photograph. And look forward to the day: Bergen is a magnificent setting for Constitution Day, and now it has a website we can be proud of too.
