The violinist who put Bergen on the world map

Ole Bull (1810–1880) was an internationally renowned violinist and a champion of Norwegian art and culture. He founded Det Norske Theater in Bergen in 1850. Combining musical virtuosity with national commitment, he became one of the city’s great cultural figures.

The violinist and the water spirit

Stephan Sinding’s monument was unveiled on 17 May 1901. Bull stands with his violin above a fossegrim, a water spirit, and flowing water, connecting the musician with Norwegian nature and folklore.

The 2027 ceremony

The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducts a separate ceremony at approximately 08:15. It is not part of the morning procession. The larger anniversary ceremony in 2026 was a special event.
