Local memories of war and resistance

Gravdal preserves several traces of the Second World War. The memorial grove at the junction of Gravdalsveien and Wallemsvikveien contains monuments to people who lost their lives during the war.

Bergen byleksikon describes a memorial erected in 1983 to eight resistance members executed in Gravdal during the occupation. Another, erected in 1990, honours six men who fell at Hellen battery and two at Kvarven on 9 April 1940.

Passing on the tradition

Laksevåg Bueskyttere conducts the wreath laying. The youth brigade’s participation passes remembrance on to new generations and places local history within Constitution Day’s celebration of freedom.
