Freedom and military history at Bergenhus
Fredrik Wesenberg Rieber-Mohn (1892–1944) was a lawyer and officer. During the fighting in Valdres in April 1940, he commanded a company and was seriously wounded. He later became an early Milorg resistance leader in the Bergen region. Arrested by the German occupying forces, he died at Natzweiler concentration camp in 1944.
The plaque at Bergenhus’s entrance honours his service. Together with the wreath laying at the Bergenhus Regiment plaque, the ceremony commemorates military tradition, resistance and the freedom celebrated on Constitution Day.

The marker shows the main gate and Appellplassen area, rather than the precise positions of both plaques. Follow the organisers’ instructions at the fortress. See the ceremonies on the map.
