Bergen native and playwright
Ludvig Holberg (1684–1754) was born in Bergen and became an influential writer, historian and playwright. His comedies belong to the shared Danish-Norwegian literary heritage and have been performed for generations.
John Börjeson’s statue at Vågsallmenningen was unveiled in 1884, the bicentenary of Holberg’s birth. Wreath laying honours one of Bergen’s great literary figures and the city’s long tradition of humour and theatre.
