Two voices in hymn writing
Dorothe Engelbretsdatter (1634–1716) was one of Norway’s early women writers and an important hymn writer. She lived in Bergen and was personally acquainted with Petter Dass (1647–1707), the poet and priest from Nordland.
The memorial at Domkirkegården features portrait reliefs of both writers by Ambrosia Tønnesen, completed in 1911. The ceremony celebrates language, song and literature as part of our shared cultural heritage.
