Our enduring traditions and stories carry our cultural heritage.

Since February this year, we have shared a small story from Bergen’s 17 May celebrations every week. And there are still plenty more to tell! Our followers have responded so warmly that we plan to return with new stories next spring.

The people of Bergen leave their mark from generation to generation. Our enduring traditions and stories carry our cultural heritage. In the rush and chaos of everyday life, something that remains as it has always been can offer a reassuring anchor. By passing our stories and traditions on, we keep our love for Bergen alive and care for our shared heritage. We hope these weekly stories have refreshed familiar knowledge and introduced you to things you never knew.

Thank you for following along this time — preparations for 17 May 2026 are already under way!

A reminder of the days when the 17 May programme was printed on paper. Many people collected these programmes. Fortunately, they have been preserved in the 17 May Committee’s archive, Special Collections, University of Bergen Library.
